What Happens When You Start A Weight-Loss Programme?
.
So, you’ve got going and you’re in a Calorie-Deficit – which, as we know, is what causes weight-loss.
.
(No calorie-deficit = no weight-loss!)
.
The first thing to happen is your body starts shedding water-weight – mainly as you’ll be eating fewer carbs.
.
(Remember, the body adds three grams of water to every gram of carbs that it stores)
.
This happens regardless of whether you’re doing a Low-Carb diet or not – simply by eating less overall, you’ll likely eat less carbs.
.
You’ll notice your clothes getting looser as your body rapidly changes in these early stages – and both the scales and your circumference measurements will show this.
.
Indeed, it’s common to see HUGE losses in the first couple of week.
.
You will also, of course, start steadily burning fat – if your calorie-intake is set to a sensible calorie-deficit, roughly 1 pound per week.
.
A more aggressive deficit will probably cause your body to start burning muscle tissue for energy.
.
This is not good – assuming you want to look good, be healthy and get results that LAST.
.
(Because running your body down by starving is the surest route to putting all the weight back on!)
.
Once your body has finished shedding excess water, your rate of weight-loss will slow down.
.
Many factors affect scale-weight – well, these will become increasingly evident now.
.
If you weigh yourself every day, this can mess with your head.
.
Don’t freak out!
.
Remind yourself of why this is happening and the truth – that weight-loss isn’t a linear process.
.
It’s a wavy line.
.
As long as the trend over the next few weeks and months is downward, you have nothing to worry about.
.
Weight-Loss is a marathon – not a sprint.
.
Go too ‘hard and fast’ at the start and you’ll burn-out.
.
Pace yourself sensibly, and you’ll make it to the finish line.
